BFU hits record high with 14 disciplines in global 2025 subject rankings

In the recently released 2025 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), Beijing Forestry University achieved a new milestone with 14 disciplines ranked within the global top 500, an increase of six compared to 2024. Among them, Agriculture led the way, placing 19th globally and ranking first among domestic forestry universities. The university also demonstrated strong performance in Water Resources Engineering, Remote Sensing Technology, and Chemical Engineering, all of which entered the top 150 worldwide.

Over recent years, BFU has systematically built up its disciplinary and professional framework by leveraging its distinctive strengths in forestry and grassland science in alignment with national strategic priorities. As a result of this development, Forestry and Landscape Architecture have been selected for the second phase of China's "Double First-Class" initiative. In addition, Urban-Rural Human Settlement Ecology and Environmental Science, along with Ecological Restoration Engineering, have completed their first construction cycle under the Beijing High-Precision Discipline Development Program. In the fifth round of national discipline assessment, 17 disciplines improved their rankings. In the ESI rankings, nine disciplines are among the top 1% globally, with Plant and Animal Science ranking in the top 1‰ worldwide.

Moving forward, BFU will continue to propel more disciplines into the ranks of world-class disciplines, contributing to advancing the harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.

It is reported that the 2025 Shanghai Ranking covers 57 disciplines across five major fields: Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences. The ranking includes over 3,000 universities worldwide, with nearly 20,000 discipline entries from more than 2,000 institutions across 92 countries and regions making the final list.
