The National Forestry and Grassland Administration recently released the newly approved list of Terrestrial Ecosystem Positioning Observation and Research Stations. Two stations have been approved for construction: the Xinjiang Circum-Tarim Basin Grassland Ecosystem Positioning Observation and Research Station and the Gansu Wuwei Oasis Farmland Shelterbelt Ecosystem Positioning Observation and Research Station, both with BFU as the technical support unit.

The approval of these two new terrestrial ecosystem positioning observation and research stations represents a landmark achievement in BFU's efforts to support ecological development in western China through science and technology.

The Xinjiang Circum-Tarim Basin Grassland Ecosystem Positioning Observation and Research Station is the first provincial- and ministerial-level grassland ecosystem station established by BFU in the core area of the ecological security barrier of Northwest China's arid region. It is also the first grassland ecosystem station of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration approved for construction in the desert-oasis region of southern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, filling a long-standing critical gap in the national terrestrial ecosystem observation and research network in this area.
