The winners of the 2024 Red Dot Design Concept Award have been recently announced, among whom the team led by Zhang Jie from the School of Art and Design at Beijing Forestry University proudly secured a distinguished award this year.

The 2024 Red Dot Design Concept Award honored entries from top companies, research centers, design studios, teams, and academic institutions worldwide, covering 36 categories. Zhang Jie’s team earned their award in the highly competitive Sustainability, Energy & Electrification category for their design, Eco2 - The Intelligent Home Lighting System with Visualized Carbon Emission, one of only 11 award-winning projects globally in this field.

CO2 is a smart home lighting system with a convenient operational panel that displays carbon emissions through colour changes, graphics, and emission values. The system monitors consumption and operation frequency, providing reports and personalised solutions for reducing lighting emissions. Made from recycled materials, Eco2 integrates low-carbon living into daily routines, combining convenience with sustainability to build users’ intuitive understanding of carbon emissions.
The distinction “Red Dot” has become established internationally as one of the most sought-after seals of quality for good design. In order to appraise the diversity in the field of design in a professional manner, the award breaks down into three disciplines: the Red Dot Award: Product Design, Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design and Red Dot Award: Design Concept. Each competition is organised once every year. Further information on the award can be found here.
