Recently, 18 researchers and managers from the Expert Committee of Climate Project Development of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Tyumen University, Siberian Federal University, Udmurt State University, Kazan Federal University, Sibur Group Public Stock Company, and other units came to Beijing Forestry University to participate in the Russian forest carbon asset management training course. Vice President Li Xiong attended the opening ceremony. The relevant personnel from Department of International Exchange and Cooperation, International College, Department of Comprehensive Security, and College of Water Conservation attended the ceremony.
At the opening ceremony, Li Xiong extended a warm welcome to the Russian experts. He pointed out that the Chinese government attaches great importance to the issue of climate change and sets an example in forestry in response to climate change through practicing the concept of green development and leading the global transition to low-carbon development. Li Xiong introduced BFU's advantaged disciplines and achievements in forest and grass carbon sequestration, carbon measurement, carbon asset management and other fields. He stressed that China and Russia are friendly neighbors linked by mountains and rivers, and BFU attaches great importance to the cooperation and exchanges with Russia. He hopes that through this internship practice, pragmatic cooperation between two countries in carbon peaking and carbon neutrality could be continuously promoted, and BFU could set a benchmark for international cooperation of universities in response to global climate change, better serve the development strategies of the two countries, helping deepen the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination in the new era.

The relevant person in charge of the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation introduced the basics of BFU, and the relevant person in charge of the School of Soil and Water Conservation introduced the theoretical learning and practical activity arrangements of the training course in detail. Russian experts introduced the basics of forest carbon asset training in Russia. The two sides had a warm and in-depth discussion on topics of interest in forest carbon asset management.

After the opening ceremony, the Russian experts visited BFU museum and inspected the green and low-carbon campus, and had in-depth exchanges with the Ministry of Comprehensive Security of BFU. The Russian delegation will also go to Jiufeng Capital Area forest ecosystem National positioning observation and research station, Beijing Ecological Observatory Network(BEON), Olympic Forest Park and Longtan Lake monitoring site to carry out practical activities.

It is reported that in October 2022, BFU signed a memorandum of cooperation with University of Tyumen, Russia, and Russia's National Research Higher University of Economics, and signed a cooperation agreement with Plekhanov State University of Economics.
