Projects funded by National Social Science Fund of China are the most authoritative and the most influential research project with the highest level in the field of philosophy and social science in China. In 2023, a total of 171 research projects on ideological and political courses in colleges and universities were awarded support from the Fund, including 26 key projects.

The project, chaired by Liu Guangchao, aims to provide authoritative and systematic teaching resources for ideological and political education in China by developing an independent knowledge system on ecological civilization. The project will follow the "Outline of Learning Xi Jinping's Thought on Ecological Civilization" and incorporate the latest scientific research findings on ecological civilization into the development of teaching materials on this topic. By leveraging the interdisciplinary strengths of Marxism and ecology, the project seeks to enhance the ecological civilization curriculum. Additionally, the project plans to establish a number of ecological civilization practice bases, building upon national parks and national ecological civilization pilot zones.

On November 27, Beijing Social Science Fund announced its list of projects for 2023, including Liu Guangchao's "Research on the Scientific Connotation and Practical Path of the Important Proposals on the Four Major Benefits of Forests," which was designated as a key project.

Xi noted that forests have the ability to conserve water, generate economic benefits, enhance grain production, and act as a carbon sink in various locations and time periods. Forests and grasslands are of fundamental and strategic importance for our country's ecological security; when they thrive, the environment flourishes. The scientific conclusion regarding the Four Major Benefits of Forests, as an integral part of Xi Jinping's Thought on Ecological Civilization, encompasses the profound philosophy of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, economic development, and ecological protection. This provides fundamental guidelines and actions for constructing a modernized harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. The significant proposal of the Four Major Benefits of Forests possesses rich scientific connotations and has gradually formed a practical path, necessitating scientific interpretation and systematic summarization at the theoretical level.
