From August 30 to September 5, 2026, a Chinese forestry delegation led by Professor Jia Liming of Beijing Forestry University (BFU), visited Paraná, Brazil, for research and academic exchange. The six-member delegation included representatives from BFU, the Research Institute of Subtropical Forestry of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, the Guangdong Academy of Forestry, and the Sichuan Academy of Forestry. The visit was made at the invitation of relevant research institutions, universities, and forestry enterprises in Paraná.

The delegation visited the Araucaria Foundation and Universidade Federal do Paraná(UFPR). Camila Girardi Fachin, Vice President of the university, joined representatives from the Department of International Relations and the College of Forestry for the exchange. The two sides discussed the development of international talent and research collaboration and the university's College of Forestry provides a strong foundation for academic cooperation. Professor Jia Liming also introduced BFU's achievements in teaching and cross-border research collaboration at the College of Forestry.

Focusing on Paraná's forestry industry chain, the delegation toured two major enterprises, Klabin and Águia, visiting a loblolly pine progeny test plantation and a eucalyptus clonal plantation. They gained insights into variety selection, seedling production, and plantation management, and learned about differences between new and older pulp production lines. The delegation also examined the full process from log grading to lumber processing, learning about loblolly pine cultivation cycles and knot-free wood production.

China and Brazil share a strong foundation for cooperation in plantation forestry, genetic improvement, and industry development. The two sides explored future collaboration in germplasm resources, long-term plantation experiments, plantation stability, and researcher and graduate student exchanges.
The visit was part of the overseas academic mission under the National Key R&D Program of China "Research on Directed Cultivation Technology of Fast-growing Timber Forests such as Chinese Pine" led by BFU's College of Forestry. It laid a foundation for further long-term cooperation between China and Brazil in forestry research, education, and talent development.
