On the 38th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Uruguay, Beijing Forestry University (BFU) signed two key cooperation agreements with leading Uruguayan research institutions during a high-level ceremony in Beijing. President Li Zhaohu attended the event, held on the sidelines of Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi's state visit to China.

The signing of an MOU with the Clemente Estable Biological Research Institute (IIBCE) was witnessed by Uruguayan Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin, while a separate agreement with the University of Technology of Uruguay (UTEC) saw President Valeria Larnaudie represent her institution. 

The three parties outlined concrete collaboration plans focusing on joint research into the prevention and control of forest invasive species. They also agreed to work toward establishing a shared high-level laboratory, combining resources and expertise to advance scientific innovation in forest pest management. 

Uruguay, a key member of Mercosur and the first member to sign a Belt and Road cooperation memorandum with China, represents an important strategic partner. These agreements expand BFU's presence in Latin America while injecting new momentum into China-Uruguay cooperation in forestry, biotechnology and higher education. 

The signing marks a significant step in BFU's efforts to support the Belt and Road Initiative and advance agricultural and ecological technology collaboration between China and Latin America.
