According to the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) data released by Clarivate on July 9, two subjects at Beijing Forestry University—Agricultural Sciences and Environment/Ecology—have entered the global top 0.1% for the first time. This marks a new milestone in the university's international academic influence, following the earlier inclusion of Plant and Animal Science in the top 0.1%. 

A total of 10,428 institutions are ranked in the current ESI edition, with BFU placed at 847th globally, up seven spots from the previous edition (May 2026). The university now has three subjects in the ESI top 0.1% and nine subjects in the ESI top 1%: Plant and Animal Science, Agricultural Sciences, Environment/Ecology, Chemistry, Engineering, Materials Science, Biology and Biochemistry, Earth Sciences, and Social Sciences, General. 

The Essential Science Indicators database is one of the most widely used tools for evaluating the research performance and international impact of universities and academic institutions. Updated every two months, ESI covers 22 subject areas and measures scientific research output and citation impact.
