Signing ceremony of International Expert Center for China-Russia low-carbon campus development held

Recently, Beijing Forestry University and University of Tyumen, Russia, held a signing ceremony for the Letter of Intent to establish an International Expert Center for China-Russia Low-Carbon Campus Development.  The event was attended by Tolstikov Andrei, Vice President of Tyumin State University of Russia, Nikolai Durmanov, Biosecurity Advisor of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, and other Russian representatives who participated online.  Li Xiong, Vice President of BFU, also attended the meeting.

Li Xiong extended his greetings to the representatives of University of Tyumen and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.  He emphasized that the signing aims to fully implement the "Joint Statement on Deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Coordination in the New Era between China and Russia" by enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation in education and scientific & technological innovation between the two countries.  The partnership seeks to tap into the potential of cooperation in basic research, applied research, and the industrialization of scientific & technological achievements.  Additionally, it focuses on addressing common global development issues such as cutting-edge science & technology and low-carbon economy, with the goal of promoting high-quality development for both universities.

Tolstikov Andrei spoke highly of the international training program on forest carbon asset measurement and management jointly organized by the two universities last year, and expressed his expectations for the cooperation in carbon reduction, carbon capture and environmental protection.  Nikolai Durmanov stressed the international community's concern about climate change, fossil fuel use, greenhouse gas emissions and low-carbon energy, saying that China and Russia will play an important role and make active efforts in these fields.

In the presence of the attendees, the two parties concluded the cooperative signing ceremony.  The International Relations Office, Comprehensive Security Department, Department of Social Services and Comprehensive Research, School of Soil and Water Conservation, and their respective personnel were present at the event.

It is reported that the China-Russia International Expert Center for Low-carbon Campus Development  is expected to focus on the collaborative development and carbon neutral international certification assessment of low-carbon campus verification projects.  By leveraging think tanks, this center aims to foster extensive exchanges and collaboration in the field of low-carbon campus development, while also providing practical examples of low-carbon campus construction, operation, and management.
