BFU Selection Contest for FAO’s “Youth Action in Forest Health” International Competition

Registration Announcement

In order to further promote research innovation in the field of forest health, ignite the research passion of young scholars, and showcase our latest achievements in forest health management, Beijing Forestry University, through its International Relations Office , in collaboration with the School of Forestry, School of Economics and Management, School of Ecology and Nature Conservation, and School of Grassland Science, is pleased to announce the upcoming “Voices of Future Forest Health – 5-Minute Research Competition” (5MT Competition in Forest Health). This competition is held with the support of the FAO Forestry Division, and it aims to select outstanding young research talents to ultimately represent the university in FAO’s "Youth Action in Forest Health" International Competition. The details are as follows:

1. Eligible Participants
Undergraduate students, master’s students, doctoral students, and postdoctoral researchers are welcome to apply. All students with an interest and research achievements in the field of forest health are encouraged to participate.

2. Research Themes
Participants are required to deliver their research presentations around the following topics:

· Technologies for Detecting and Managing Forest Pests and Diseases

· Forest Resilience to Invasive Species and Related Disturbances

· Forest Health Under Climate Change Scenarios

· Socio-economic Impacts of Forest Health and Pest Outbreaks

3. Competition Format

· Each participant will have 5 minutes to deliver an English presentation using PowerPoint, showcasing their research achievements and relevant work experience. Presentations should be concise, impactful, and engaging, highlighting how your research, laboratory work, or practical experience addresses forest health challenges.

· The competition will be evaluated through a combination of expert scoring and audience voting. The panel of judges will consist of seasoned experts and scholars in fields such as forestry, ecology, forest protection, and forest management.

4. Registration and Timeline

· Registration Period: Now until March 25, 2025

· Preliminary Screening and Notification: The shortlist will be announced on March 27, 2025

· Competition Date: April 3, 2025

· Announcement of Winners and Subsequent Recommendation: BFU winners will be announced on April 5, 2025, and will be recommended for the FAO International Competition.
