Formal deformations (or quantizations) of Poisson manifolds and Hopf algebras converge in the notion, due to Drinfeld, of quantum group, which is introduced after a brief overview of these topics. In short, this is an invitation to the work of V. G. Drinfeld. Some further developments and applications are discussed.
