Recently, the signing ceremony of China-Argentina Forage Breeding Cooperation Agreement and China-Argentina Alfalfa Breeding Technology Seminar was held in Shandong Province. Daniel Basigalup, a renowned world famous alfalfa breeder, who is a professor of National Institute for Agricultural Technology (INTA) and the president of the Second World Alfalfa Congress, and more than 50 experts and scholars from Beijing Forestry University, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Qingdao Agricultural University and other institutions attended the meeting. Wang Tiemei, associate professor of School of Grassland Science, was invited to the conference and give a special academic report.
In the report, Wang Tiemei introduced the research progress of alfalfa variety breeding in Beijing Forestry University, focusing on the breeding methods of cold-resistant varieties, the evaluation of fall dormancy, disease resistance identification results, planting division and promotion, etc.
After the meeting, Wang Tiemei, Professor Daniel Basigalup and his delegation went to Binzhou, Dongying, Weifang and other major alfalfa agriculture areas in the Yellow River Delta to conduct field research, so as to comprehensively understand the current situation of local alfalfa industry,laying foundation for future cooperation.
In recent years, School of Grassland Science has continuously strengthened cooperation and exchanges at home and abroad. In 2021, School of Grassland Science has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Institute of Leisure Agriculture of Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, which provides an opportunity to promote in-depth cooperation and exchanges among institutes and build a high-level scientific and technological cooperation platform and talent training platform.
