With the development of AI technology, the ever-deteriorating electromagnetic pollution has drawn increasing attention from the public. As a new lightweight material, natural fiber-reinforced polymer composite has emerged as a preferred choice for producing materials that offer protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI). Therefore, the research group of Prof. Zhang Shuangbao functionalized the surface of bamboo fibers with Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4-NPs) and polypyrrole (PPy) through polydopamine. The functionalized fibers afford distinct electric conductivity and magnetic behavior, and the prepared bamboo fiber-reinforced polybutylene succinate (PBS) composite protects against electromagnetic interference (EMI), providing a new idea for high-value utilization of functional wood plastic composite.
The research results were published in Carbohydrate Polymers (impact factor: 9.381) titled as “Polydopamine-treated hierarchical cellulosic fibers as versatile reinforcement of polybutylene succinate biocomposites for electromagnetic shielding” with the first author Hong Gonghua, a doctoral candidate at the College of Material Science and Technology and Prof. Zhang Shuangbao as the first corresponding author.
